"Make Me Howl" tells the story of Killian and Sunflower, both who appear in the Order of the Dragon series.
Sunflower has convinced her friends, Claudine and Leslie, to head with her to a hot underground club she's found in her research for her thesis. A place where she can explore her desires and spread her wings.
Then she spots him.
The one that got away.
Killian Fenrison.
He takes it upon himself to escort her around the place, to make sure she finds what she wants, who she wants.
But there's no question.
She wants him.
Even if she hates him. Because she needs just one night with the beast...
This story contains a light k*nk element.
"Make Me Howl" is set in New York City, with much of it starting at the kink club for the shifters of the Order of the Dragon, a paranormal policing organization. Here is where the supernatural cut loose, and often find love between the sheets.
The supernatural world is hidden from normal humans, and the club, Decadence requires a golden invitation for admission (invite only).
I wanted to create the Wolf's Den as a part of this world, whereas the Order of the Dragon series is more Urban Fantasy romance (with a slow burn romance), For this story, I wanted to showcase the other supernatural creatures with some spice, humor, and good fun.
"Make Me Howl" is set before the events from "Zero Hour."
This series has very loose ties to Norse mythology through its wolves, being connected to the Great Wolf, Fenrir, Loki's son. The wolves in this series do not require a full moon to transform, but are shifters and able to change at will.
Meet Killian Fenrison
Killian Fenrison is the second in charge of the Order, second to only his uncle, Alistair. Although situated normally outside of Inverness, Scotland, he is on vacation in New York to check on the branch of the Order in New York City, and also to let his hair down.
As a powerful wolf-shifter, whose father is Fenrir, the great wolf from Norse mythology, he has strong ties to the Norse pantheon, too.
Despite all of this, he has always thought love would not be in the cards for him... but when fate has other intentions, he's ready to jump in with both feet.
Sunflower "Cass" Buchanan
They say, write what you know…
Sunflower Cassie Buchanan is a grad student, studying human sexuality. She's shunned most of her childhood, racing off to the city after a heartbreak. Once arriving in New York, she found her magic and has become quite a little witch, songwriting on the side as she balances love's loss with the rigorous hours at the university. Yes, she's interested in making sure she understands human sexuality to write about it, and when the man who broke her heart crosses her path, she is more than tempted.
In fact, in the book, Sunflower writes a song, called Vibe with Me, which I actually turned into a well-received song (in fact, it went all the way to #1 on Hits You Love radio station in March of this year!)
Supporting Characters
Leslie Love is a romance writer and best friend for Sunflower. She knows nothing about the supernatural world. YET.
Claudine Cutlass is Leslie's sister. She is an independent woman always looking for a good time and knows where to find one.
Beau Charming is a multimillionaire, New York City's most eligible bachelor, and the head of the Order of the Dragon: Wolves in New York City. He keeps up appearances making sure that the resources (both financial and magical) are available to keep the magical world hidden from humans.
Hans "Goose" Ganz has been active in the series since, Once Bitten. He is a wolf soldier that rises through the ranks.
Wolf Pack...
Several different wolves are introduced in this book, including Donahue, Graham, Tarik, and Chelle
Listen to the Behind the Scenes audio as Tina explains how "Make Me Howl" came about and the message the story brings with it, that's applicable for all.
This book is years in the making. When I was on Dr. Oz years ago (fun fact: I appeared on Dr. Oz as was my first real acting credit, and one of the few you'll still find on IMDB. I was lucky enough to even sign a book for a reader in the studio too). Anyway, I stayed at a (to me) swanky hotel in Soho, in Manhattan that had a great bar and rooftop club.
It was decadent, and sexy, and felt like freedom on a stick.
This was one of the best clubs of my entire life. Everyone was high on life, and just having a grand time with great music, plenty of room to get your dance on, and then room on the rooftop to actually talk to people.
It was amazing, unforgettable, and just made me think of all of the "What Ifs." My writers brain was on fire from all of the stimuli to say the least.
New York is loud and busy. I swear that construction was happening at 4 in the AM. Yellow taxies everywhere, the subway that made life easier to cross from one part of the city to the next, to even the delicious pizza (my mouth is salivating just remembering).
Walking those streets, I felt like I fit in, as if in another lifetime that place might have been home. The people were friendly, the sites and sounds to my liking, and it was busy as hell. When they say New York never sleeps, it truly was never quiet.
We all know I started reading Year of Yes last year... and I felt I needed to jump over my shadow, get back out there and be fearless.
What you didn’t know is that in 2021, I was sick for months.
I had to have emergency surgery and doctors were concerned that I would hemorrhage as they couldn’t stop my bleeding.
What you didn’t know is that in 2021, I had days I could barely walk, let alone get out of bed.
What you didn’t know is my hair fell out, my body was in so much pain... but I never stopped hoping for a better day.
I promised myself that if I and when I got better, I’d do more from surviving to thriving.
I’d practice self-care.
I’d live fearlessly.
So, when I started writing again, a character appeared who wished only to converse in prose—heart-wrenching poetry and deep shadow work begun. I became more of a poet then, finding a second breath in verse.
Then, as if out of the ether, I heard, but what if that poem could become more? I’m sure it was Loki
I knew nothing about the music industry, but this desire to create and release it to the world was irresistibly strong.
Doors opened. I found a brilliant producer who not only helped me to bring this to life, but believed in me.
I thought at first we were done when the song came back, and it was just lovely. It had me singing background vocals only as I was too afraid to have anyone hear me. It’s different to sing in the shower, to forget what it was like to be on stage, in the spotlight and have emotion and melody spring forth from one’s heart.
With the meekness of a church mouse, I asked if it was possible to layer the track for us to have a duet.
And so he did it...
When the email arrived, I stared at it for a bit.
Almost too afraid to even open it.
But then again, I was also too curious.
Suddenly, as if I was 16 years old again, and fearless, I placed on my headphones, pressed play.
The music sprang to life... and I heard her... me.
This song had only been a thought, an idea only weeks before, was now my music baby, my gift to life’s soundtrack.
None of this would have been possible without my meeting with this character, which changed everything for me. She once again gave me a voice I’d thought long gone.
I thought it was just a flicker, a slight shimmer, something to give me a hope for a better tomorrow. What I didn’t know was that it would to kick off so much more.
Below you'll find the four panels with the original poem which became my debut song "Vibe With Me," then called Lie to Me.
